Love of Music!

Whether you are a beginner or very accomplished, young or not-so-young, I would be honored to work with you and share the wonderful, high quality instruction I received in my many years of music study. You will be getting great practice tips, along with an understanding of what it takes to make beautiful music.

For the beginner, it’s all about fun, with gentle guidance on technique and developing the ear, so that this budding musician can easily blossom with musical maturity. For the student who has been playing for a while, we build on strengths, while integrating new approaches to playing . . . all within the context of a love of music and music-making.

School-aged students receive one private lesson per week, plus 4 group classes scheduled throughout the school year, a "Piano Party" in December, and a recital in the spring. Lessons for younger students may be 45 minutes, whereas more advanced students take 1-hour lessons. Included in the private lessons are theory and music history, with a primary focus on musicality and technique.

As an adjunct to the private lessons, students participate in Keyboard Gymnastics, a highly flexible achievement program. We also participate in Phoenix Music Teachers Association activities, and in the National Federation of Music Clubs' annual festival.

Adult students typically receive a 1-hour private lesson each week. Intermediate and advanced students have the option of bi-weekly lessons. Beginners are welcome! It's never to late to take up the piano!

The Rostron Piano Studio was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in 1983. Lessons are given in Dr. Rostron's home-based studio, near Cave Creek Rd. and Greenway.

What students and their parents say about lessons with Peggy:

"Peggy is an amazing teacher. She is patient and understanding with her students. Her students learn a lot about music, not just how to play beautifully, but theory and technique, also. They learn how and why to play a piece a certain way, too, instead of just learning it. Peggy really is wonderful."

                      —Amy W., age 12

"Our 17-year-old daughter, Katryn, has studied piano with Ms. Peggy Rostron for a little over a year. During this time her technique has improved tremendously, allowing her to play the more difficult passages with greater ease and musicality. We are very grateful to Peggy for her gentle tenacity, and insistence on attention to detail, which has resulted in more refinement and nuance in Katie's playing."
            —Patti Hurtado, M.M. and
               J. David Hurtado, M.D.

"Peggy is a wealth of information on fundamental instrumental study methods and understanding music. Even though I have 45 years of professional experience as a musician and composer, I find that I regularly draw on the insights and guidance I received while studying piano with Peggy."
                       —Frank Darmiento

"I studied piano with Peggy for nine years. I found that her teaching involved more than just explaining how to read black scratches on a white page. Instead, her approach was more holistic, insisting on the emotional and creative understanding that could move a performance from the average to the spectacular."
                   —Michelle Hertzfeld

"Peggy shows me how to release genuine musicianship in my playing."
                             —Sharon Klein

"I studied piano for 8 years as a child. I have always loved playing the piano and have continued into my adult life. However, I always felt there was a sensitivity missing in my playing, but could never put my finger on why until I started taking piano lessons from Peggy. Now, at age 62, I am learning all the things that make a piece of music exquisite. I only wish I could have studied with Peggy when I was a child. Her young students are lucky to have her for a teacher, because it is so much easier to start out with good instruction."
